CISCO CERTIFIED NETWORK ASSOCIATE - CCNAAbout Cisco Founded in 1984, Cisco is a multinational company headquartered in San Jose, California. It deals with networking and communication products and services. It is the market leader in sales of networking hardware, particularly routers and other hardware to support network communications. What is CCNA? Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) is an IT certification course moderated by Cisco that engages students on knowledge and skills required to plan, design, implement and manage small to medium sized networks. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®) validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size route and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. CCNA curriculum includes basic mitigation of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills. This new curriculum also includes (but is not limited to) the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2),VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs). Structure and course duration CCNA is structured into four parts, each which takes about 2 months. · Part I: Network fundamentals · Part II: Routing protocols and concepts · Part III: LAN switching and wireless · Part IV: Accessing the WAN Mode of delivery As a Cisco Networking Academy, Kimathi University College of Technology will provide the required materials and practical lab sessions necessary for CCNA certification. Classes are run Mon – Thu starting 5:00pm to 6: 30pm. We are also considering starting Saturday classes. Entry requirements and fees One should have basic proficiency in computer use particularly on using a web browser like Internet Explorer, Opera etc.
